A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light that is absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses just long enough to travel down the hair shaft to the base of the hair follicle, to eliminate or significantly impede the hairâ€™s growth. Treatment time varies considerably depending on the size of the area treated and the particular technique used.

Since the laser affects only those hairs in the growth phase and not all hairs will be in this stage at the same time, several treatments will most likely be needed to effectively remove 80-90% of the hair from one area. Subsequent sessions will be scheduled four to six weeks apart. Normal hair goes through a cycle that includes three phrases: growth, rest and transition. During the growth phase, hair is resistant. At any one time, various percentages of body hair will be in each of these phases, making complete removal unlikely without multiple sessions. Typically, five treatments spaced four to six weeks apart are necessary to achieve the desired result.
